JJ Mayes and Victor Isaac are responsible for some of the best and funniest material at the Hollywood Fringe over the years and The Word is no exception. A one-man show “Brought to you by the First Church of the Holy Homeboy,” the show features Isaac portraying a Reverend with a new ‘translation’ of the Bible and an ex-convict named LaShawn, reminiscent of Eddie Murphy at his SNL prime.
It’s a story about redemption, forgiveness, gin and tonics, booty, and family. The Three Clubs back room is a perfect venue for the show, giving the proceedings a lively vibe even before Isaacs hits to the stage, but once he does, the energy never wanes.
The Word has an important message at it’s core, – but to pen it here would take the fun out discovering the surprises in this screamingly funny and touching show. Just be sure to rush down to Three Clubs to find out ‘what had happened.’
