RHYTHM DELIVERED

The creative percussion company DrumatiX arrives at Fringe this year with RHYTHM DELIVERED. It is an imaginative show that sees a group of friends find and play with a variety of objects and instruments that can be used to create a beat. There’s tap dancing, miming, drumming, and antics galore, and the troupe invites the audience to join in their fun.

There’s not much of a plot in RHYTHM DELIVERD, merely “discovery” after “discovery” of new ways to make fun and noise. But that’s okay, as all they really need is an excuse to keep up the beat. And keep up the beat they do. Group creator and choreographer Noa Barankin manages to create an hour’s worth of interesting, diverse rhythms and patterns for her dancers. The sheer technical feats of dancing and rhythm that the performers pull off are decidedly impressive. Different groupings of dancers take the stage for each segment of dancing or drumming (or both!), and they manage their transitions and variety well.

RHYTHM DELIVERED is a show that is especially good for kids, of which there were many in the audience of the show I saw. The show’s clown-like, larger-than-life miming, and wordless expressions are easy to understand and delightful in a childlike way. But the show is enjoyable for audiences of all ages.
