Press Release

Co-Producers Tom Vitorino and Alice L. Walker (Thursday Night Theater Club), have signed acclaimed director/actor, Robyn Cohen for The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance at The El Portal Theatre MainStage. Both Vitorino and Walker are thrilled to have Robyn Cohen at the helm directing their cast of twelve. This will be her second time to direct with Thursday Night Theater Club. Cohen’s first experience with TNTC was the successful production, A View From The Bridge in 2018.

The show will open March 21 – 23 and April 3 – 14, 2019. Tickets and information are available now.

“This is a big play,” stated Vitorino, “and Robyn’s deep understanding of the literature of classic theatre, as well as her ability to create an inescapable space for both actor and audience, made her the only consideration for this production”.

The Elephant Man is based on the life of Joseph Merrick. The play opened in London in 1977. It premiered on Broadway in 1979 and won all of the major theater awards, including three Tony Awards, three Obie Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award.
