Girl comes to Hollywood with stars in her eyes and big dreams to become an actress, arrives and gets a taste of reality, almost gets beat, then turns her life around with a new-found self-love and a middle finger. She also happens to be fat.
“Fuck it” is the commemorative theme of the actors day (you know we’ve all used the phrase – don’t even go there!) in this sure to be darling show of the 2016 Hollywood Fringe.
Actor, writer, composer Theresa Stroll struck a chord with preview audiences who laughed at her humor, waded with her through a moat of disappointment, suck auditions, horrifying body shaming comments, and a shit storm of debt, waiting, rather, rooting for a happy ending.
Female solo comedy My Big Fat Blonde Musical is delightful if not a little long in making the heard-many-times point. But getting revenge by one’s own determination and grit (ok this show has tapping too…as it should!) might just be the best success anyone could hope for. Stroll gets it all. Just about.
‘It’s not over till the fat lady sings.’ And boy does she! This show is for everyone, no matter what shape or size, who has ever felt judged by someone else’s negative perception of them for no other reason than looks.
Just plain sweet.
