The most amusing thing about Hollywood Fringe is how “fringy” it can be much of the time. And keeping in line with all the “boisterosity” is one of the more fantastically entertaining audience participation shows happening this year.
Magic and Other Dangerous Things currently showing at the Ruby Theatre at The Complex is deceptively dangerous in a magical sort of way (I’m so glad they know what they’re doing – yikes!). In fact, parts of the show are more like a combination of a mild version of Fear Factor and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, plus a few card tricks thrown in for laughs. Ok there’s more, but I don’t want to give it away.
The one thing it absolutely is, is comically, fascinatingly, FUN!
David Blatter & Leeman Parker, @DavidandLeeman (follow them on Twitter for a button, and ask at the show) are both practicing local magicians entertaining guests regularly at Hollywood’s famous Magic Castle. They played to sold out houses during Fringe 2013, were winners of the 2012 L.A. Comedy Festival and Best of Fringe in 2012 & 2013, and by the look of the most recent packed house, it seems that is a trend that will continue throughout the 2014 season. You will also be able to catch them in their national television debut, on the new CW Network Series Masters of Illusion this coming August.
Gia On The Move’s suggestion is to get a show in NOW before Fringe ends for one of the best hours you will spend in a seat this summer!
I have no idea how they did any of those tricks!
