Gallery House Founder Belinda Chun announces Canadian artist Ray Caesar solo show to open February 14, 2014 at 7:00 pm for the public reception at the Dorothy Circus Gallery – Rome, Italy with the artist in attendance. This will be followed by February 15, 2014 an institutional show at the Palazzo Saluzzo Paesana, Turin Italy.
Ray Caesar works are known for being a reflection of his subconscious mind and path to self-discovery. The viewer of his work is often left to their own devices to discover a hidden clock, scissor or skeleton within other strange things. The Trouble with Angels continues on this theme, disclosing in a dream like manner the past by reflecting on the passage of time. For example, The Forgotten is a place where our memories live and may lie dormant for years but as Ray explains “it still exists, even though it is no longer acknowledged…a certain smell, a sight of a grin with decaying teeth, or a note played on a piano can suddenly find that place in each of us, like a key unlocking the door”.
Ray is widely coveted and he is considered the grandfather of digital art having been collected by museums world wide including Bristol museum; board of Trustee selection of the MOMA, Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
Ray is also included in Gallery House Volume 01, you can access a full preview of the 118 page catalogue here.
