In celebration of Long Beach Ballets 30th Anniversary, the Classical Ballet of Guangzhou from China will perform David Wilcoxs rendition of Cinderella, the ballet that he choreographed specifically for this Chinese Ballet company in 2005. Long Beach Ballet will feature two performances of Cinderella, one on Saturday, October 27th at 8pm, and one on Sunday, October 28th at 2pm at the Long Beach Terrace Theater. The short ballet performance of the exquisite Chinese-themed Butterfly Lovers and Yellow River, will be performed on Saturday, October 27th at 2PM.
Promptly in time for Halloween, children are invited to come in costume and enjoy a festive treat as Cinderellas pumpkin coach will carry her to the ball pulled by eight dazzling stallions, danced of course by eight dazzling male dancers of the Guangzhou Ballet. All are invited to engage in this magical performance and enchanting Halloween-themed event. This is a great performance for families and an alternative for typical Halloween goers as they are surrounded by fantasy, and charm.
The award winning, Classical Ballet of Guangzhou has a strong artistic affiliation with the Long Beach Ballet. Collaboration between Long Beach Ballet’s artistic director David Wilcox and the Chinese ballet company began 13 years ago when he staged his Nutcracker production for them and it became one of their most performed ballets. Wilcox was also responsible for organizing the company’s first international tour in 1999. They, in turn, play host to Long Beach Ballet’s annual three-week long performance tour titled U.S. Ballet Ambassadors to China, in which 40 U.S. ballet students perform from one end of China to the other.
We are excited to host a magical rendition of one of the worlds best-known, best loved fairy tales- Cinderella, said David Wilcox. The number of dancers in the Guangzhou Ballet this year has grown to 63, compared to 50 on their first tour, and the quality of the dancing is unsurpassed internationally, he added.
Tickets go on sale September 24th at 10AM.
