eShakti Revisits The Vintage Style of Bonnie and Clyde

by Tracey Paleo, Gia On The Move

459px-Bonnieclyde_fThere has been a longing fascination with Depression Era bank robbers Bonnie Elizabeth Parker  and Clyde Chestnut Barrow. The two outlaws and their gang captured the attention of the Americans people during the “public enemy era” between 1931 and 1934. They later had their reputation revived and cemented in American pop folklore by Arthur Penn’s 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde, which starred Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. With A&E’s recent (and summarily slammed) TV remake this past week, it’s no surprise that not only are this couple’s antics in the spotlight once again, but their fashions are as well.

eShakti, the premiere online retailer of retro-inspired, customizable apparel, decided to highlight a more charming side of this pair and came up with some interesting pieces that can help you channel the aspiring-actress-turned-criminal  that will make you look simply….shall we say… arresting?  Add a headpiece, rouge those lips, and you’re ready to break hearts!

Fashion Star Friday: Under Cover Hoodie NYC

hoodieEarlier this year Gia On The Move’s Contributing Beauty Editor, Chris Paleo attended a B:Scott Collection kick-off event at New York’s Lower East Side retail boutique, The Hoodie Shop for NBC’s Fashion star, Brandon Scott.

Chris & Brandon

Suffice it to say, it was a fabulous event and I’m not sure how it ended up not making it to the blog right away. But as under cover “chic” never seems to go out of style, and ’tis the season (almost), we thought we’d give you the mini. You can check their website for more. Frankly, we love his stuff! And the B:Scott Collection is not just What’s Hot Now, but What’s Hot ALWAYS!

image-1 image-2……………………………………………..The Hoodie Shop, co-founded by Aleah Speranze (also the creator of Hoodie Girl) and designer Brandon Scott share a love for hooded apparel and style that balances fashion and function. As a buyer, Aleah was drawn to Brandon’s edgy but casual aesthetic.  Aleah explains, “Brandon has this way of reinventing the hoodie season after season.”

The Hoodie Shop is a new kind of experience, one that exists at the intersection of clothing and culture. A “retail anomaly” (New York Magazine), the clubhouse morphs from retail space to movie theatre to intimate venue which includes a secret DJ booth and carries pieces by breakout designers, to vintage finds, jackets, outerwear scarves and one-of-a-kinds available nowhere else.

What Comes Around Goes Around

It’s been said many times, “What Comes Around Goes Around.” We just had no idea that one of our favorite trend-liners would take it so seriously.  Turning back the clock is the Scoop NYC X Vintage Chanel Trunk Show soon to travel to Los Angeles from New York City. Taking place at the Scoop Brentwood store from Tuesday, April 23rd- Sunday, April 28th you’ll be able to step in and “Scoop” up a few coveted above-trend, vintage atelier pieces to fill in your wardrobe “gaps.”  You’ll be one of a kind!

It’s hard to believe that all of this can happen in one place in just a few short days —  February 13-15, 2012.

MAGIC ( www.magiconline.com ) is quickly approaching and it is certainly going to be interesting to see what is trending this year.  Leslie Gallin, VP of Footwear at Advanstar, was awesome enough to share these Super Trends for the upcoming season that we can expect to see at this year’s FN Platform show during MAGIC on February 13-15, 2012. From snakeskin to tailored looks, wedges to thigh high boots, we are sure to spot these highly anticipated styles at the show and on the street!

Leslie’s Top 5 favorites:

  1. Reptile Skins – Crocodile and snakeskin materials were spotted on the runways, but will be in full force by fall/winter 2012-13. From off-the-runway to off-the-rack, a bevy of brands have adopted this trend for the upcoming season.
  2. Mixed Materials – A fresh take on a footwear classic, brands are adding mixed materials (textures & metallics) for a luxe vibe on an otherwise tailored shoe.
  3. Buckles – For those seeking comfort and style, buckles are here to stay as a finishing detail in men’s and women’s footwear.
  4. Electric Hues – Vibrant tones have been spotted everywhere in accessories. This upcoming season will pair the toned down shades with bold color combinations for extra pop!
  5. Tailored Styles – Sleek lines and rich details such as shiny patent leather materials, have men and women walking in sophisticated, tailored looks.
